Size matters: for instant visual heft and a decent bit of height we have these super multi-stemmed specimens of Common Bay. Carefully pruned and trained over many years to create a plant with multiple strong stems and a good thick thatch of aromatic leaves. A high output of these deeply green (and evergreen) pointed leaves make for a dense and substantial silhouette, and these shrubs add some proper structure and backbone to a garden design year-round. More than happy to be trimmed and pruned for a tighter ‘do or do as these have been allowed: wild and free. In this manner they’re a splendid classical dollop of deep green in a Mediterranean inspired garden where they contrast perfectly with silvery stuff like Olives and pinky dinky-leaved Pittosporums. Chuck in an Aphrodite or two. Happy on any soil and though they may need shelter in especially cold areas, round here in the South East it’s an unfussy and hard-working plant that we heartily recommend.
