Elaeagnus umbellata (Japanese Silverberry or Autumn olive )
Hardiness level Green
From the Himalayas, China and Japan, this is a broad headed, spreading shrub or small tree to 6 x 10m. The dark green deciduous leaves are slender, wavy-edged, dark green above and silvery white beneath. In May and June, there are masses of creamy, sweetly scented flowers, followed by edible juicy berries, (full of lycopene), that ripen to silver-speckled bright red.
