Crassula ovata (Money Plant)
Not only is this a lovely plant for indoors, killing it is major accomplishment. They only reach about 5ft tall in their native KwaZulu Natal. Little white flowers occasionally. A position in good light indoors though full sun might cause some leaf scorch. Allow to dry out between watering, and they will enjoy an occasional feed in the summer. Properly succulent and properly tree-like in its plump way, this is a classic slice of exotica for indoors. Tough and reliable once it’s settled, they only reach about 5ft tall in their native KwaZulu Natal, and interestingly this is the height of a local one in native Camberwell which is close to 80 years in age or so. It will give out teeny little star-shaped white flowers whenever it feels like (infrequently). It will thrive in a position with good light indoors, though full sun might cause some scorching of their fleshy lumps and bumps. Allow it to dry out thoroughly between watering and never leave them with their feet wet. They will enjoy an occasional feed in the summer, when this is also a good time to take cuttings, too. Good luck and prosperity to all. Even the chap who was rude.
N.B. When clipping several plants with the same tool, have a bucket containing a 5% bleach solution and swish your blades around for 30 seconds between plants to sterilise them. This will help avoid the chance of cross contamination of disease.
As with all woody plants, plant high, exposing as much of the taper at the base of the trunk as possible. Allowing soil to accumulate round the base of a tree can be fatal. Keep very well-watered when first planted.
