Agave salmiana ferox (Vlad the Impaler)
The most ferocious plant in a nursery full of fearsome specimens. Brutal, monstrous, beautiful and hurricane resistant. King of all the Vlads. Please contact us for stock availability and sizes.
Hardiness level Red
Ferox means ferocious. Quite right too. It's so rigid and inflexible and ferocious that no hurricane would ever faze it. That's the good news. The less good news is that it's dislike of frost is greater than most other agaves so it'll need a nice big pot and a nice dry shed/garage/greenhouse for the colder months of the year unless you're in central London or Penzance or some such similarly mild spots. As with all plants like this, pups (little plants around it) and unsightly old leaves must be removed. A full suit of armour would be advisable but maybe some heavy duty gardening gauntlets (yep, we sell them) would suffice. The biggest bladed serrated bread knife is an appropriate weapon. Really worth doing - they look amazing when all the rubbish has been removed.
