Abies koreana 'Silver Show' is a very pretty pine tree, perfect for the smaller garden. It slowly develops taking 30 or so years to mature into a dense and compact tree approximately 4m tall, with horizontal branches giving it a broadly pyramidal shape. The needles are dark green above with bright silvery white colour underneath that is exposed by the needles recurving sharply upwards to give the appearance of fat rounded shoots. This delightful two tone coloured effect is enhanced by the upright and chunky, almost egg-shaped cones that it bears all along the branches, which emerge purple when new, softening to brown as they mature. It is hardy, growing best in full sun in any aspect on any sheltered or exposed, well-drained-but-moisture-retentive soil, (so it won't be happy on a chalky site, sorry.) Maintenance is minimal - it's a neat and tidy tree so unlikely even to need pruning for a very, very long time.
