Pinus thunbergii ‘Sayonara’ (Japanese Black Pine)
Dwarf and slow growing, this develops into a broad and vaguely pyramidal shape up to 100cms high and 150cms across.
The white buds are showy against the short green needles and it can produce slender pointed cones.
Plant this in well-drained loamy or sandy soils in full sun in sheltered or exposed positions. It was introduced from Japan in 1861, where it thrives in coastal positions.
